Our city faces many challenges, some of our own making. The present fiscal emergency is an example of that.

The financial problems we face came about when the city council did not watch its finances carefully and did not recognize that budget information supplied by prior city management was wildly inaccurate.

The council is now working through those financial issues. It is a significant challenge but we are making progress. We still have work to do.

Our geographic location finds our city as a drive-to destination but tourists from around the world do find us. We owe this to our spa motels. They are our best community amenity as visitors from around the world will agree.

Our financial prospects are improved with the annexation to the I-10 that will allows to capture significant added sales tax dollars of those that travel past our city. Basic sewer infrastructure, however, is needed and that is years away.
